The
Environmental Management Plan (EMP) has been prepared in accordance with the
requirements by Department of Environment (DOE). The content of this EMP has
detailed out several practices and activities to be followed and undertaken,
and it is a flexible planning document which will be improved and reviewed
continuously to adapt to the environmental condition throughout the project
duration. There are two main factors to be observed in developing and
implementing the EMP:
i.
The
objectives of the EMP must be clear.
ii.
The
commitment by the project developer/contractor to implement the EMP
accordingly.
The
purpose of setting up the EMP monitoring and report is to comply with all legal
duties and obligation regarding the protection of the environment. It requires
EMP to act as a guideline to minimize and control the environmental impact at
project site in terms of:
i.
Planning
for environmental management at the project site in order to comply with
legislation and the requirements of the DOE.
ii.
Continuous
environmental management at project site in order to ensure consistency in
environmental plans and implementation.
iii.
Reporting
plans and actions to maintain a lasting record of environmental plans and
activities at project site.
iv.
Reviewing
the practices in order to evaluate its effectiveness.
v.
Dissemination
of the environmental records and management practices to all relevant parties.
vi.
Establishment
of methodology for long term and sustainability of the environmental quality at
project site.
Thus,
the EMP is prepared to mitigate present and future environmental issues at
project site during construction phase.
